Nature versus Nurture, as what I understood refers to human behavior i.e. whether a person's genes (nature) influence his/her behavior or his/her upbringing (nurture). here, nature refers to the prenatal characteristics with which an individual is born whereas nurture refers to the surroundings in which his/her upbringing is done.
according to me, Nurture is more important than nature because the influence of genes (heredity) is not fixed and the social environment in which a person lives has a far greater impact on its behavior and life. for example - if a person is successful in his life that does not mean his parents are successful too. it simply means that he had put enough effort to make it happen. another example is that some of the characteristics that are genetically determined like skin color, height, hair color, etc. are strongly influenced by the environmental factors too.
I can infer this (nurture is more important) because I have seen many cases in my real life too where how a person is raised has a greater impact on the life of an individual.

There has long been debate about the importance of “nature vs. nurture”. Is how we turn out (successful or not, fit or not, addicted or not) determined entirely by our genes (genetic determinism) or is our environment more important (the nurture part of nature vs. nurture)? How does our genetic make-up interact with our environment? (In your answer you should include a discussion of epigenetics and how it is at the intersection of “nature vs. nurture”). This is NOT an...
Discussion # 1- Nature vs. Nurture The biggest debate in psychology, seemingly, is the one about the origin of what makes us who we are. This debate is simply referred to as the 'Nature vs. Nurture' debate. The side of nature is what we are studying in this course, the biological influences and genetics that we come into this world with (what mom and dad gave us). The nuture side of things is simply the experiences we have in life,...
Describe the nature versus nurture controversy, and give an example of a trait an how it might be influenced by each?
Nature/nurture debate within psychology is concerned with the extent to which particular aspects of behavior are a product of either inherited (genetic) or acquired (learned) characteristics. This exercise will help you explore that debate by looking at one specific behavior, aggression. Bandura's (1977) social learning theory states that aggression is learned from the environment through observation and imitation (nurture). He concludes this, in part, from the results of his famous Bobo doll experiment (Bandura, 1961). Review the Bobo experiment here,...
