Peripheral line is the line placed into the peripheral vein .

Central line is the line which is inserted through peripheral vasculature and it's tip ends in the superior vena cava.

The major difference in caring for a peripheral and a central IV site is that more precautions has to be taken care while using central line as compared to peripheral line as the central line is directed towards heart ,an air bubble in the central line would cause serious damage to the patient as it will lead to pulmonary embolism and also take care about infection by providing proper care using aseptic technique to avoid infection of heart .
