Question

You are conducting a study testing whether a childs age is a good predictor of his or her height. You have collected the following data from a random sample of seven children: Age (months) 34 50 63 59 53 Height (cm) 95 109 101 106 94 40 Perform a regression of height (dependent variable) on age (independent variable). What is the Y-intercept of the regression line? 24.73 59.70 59.56 60.46 43.73

Answer #1

Use 2nd and STAT on calculator and enter the values.

After entering the values with age as X and Height as Y.

Again press 2nd and STAT and then press down arrow keys for the regression coefficients.

a= 60.46 which is our intercept (Y-intercept)

b=0.75 which is our beta.

Regression equation =Height=60.46+(0.75*Age)

For 48 month child:

=60.46+(0.75*48)

=96.46 or 96.53 (Slight difference is due to rounding)
