Answer #1

Ans. 1) In lewis structure sulphur has 6 valence shell electrons and after sharing with 4 flourine atoms it has total 10 electron. So it does not satisfy octet rule.

Ans 2) This molecule has 4 bond pairs and 1 lone pair electrons. Out of 4 bond pairs, the angle between two is 180 and other two has around 120 degree angle. Due to which it has a see-saw molecular geometry. In case electron geometry there is also a lone pair due to which it has a trigonal bypyrmidal shape. So the above statement is false because SF4 has different molecular and electron geometry.

Ans.3) Flourine is more electronegetive than Sulphur. So their is a charge separation between S-F bond. Due to which the bond becomes polar. Hence the statement is true.

Ans.4) As discussed in above (ans. 2) their are 2 bond angles in molecule 180 and 120 degree. The bond angle 120 results in a net dipole moment. Due to which the molecule becomes polar and the above statement is false.

Ans.5) The central atom sulphur has electronic configuration 3s2 3p4 . The 2 s-orbital electrons remain as a lone pair and 1 out of 4 p-orbital elecrtron shifts to d-orbital to make avaiblity of 4 unpaired electrons to share with 4 flourine atoms. Therefore the hybridisation of this molecule is sp3d. So the above statement is false.
