Answer #1

Number of electron in Hg = 80

Electronic configuration is 1s2 2s2 2p6 3s2 3p6 3d10 4s2 4p6 4d10 4f14 5s2 5p6 5d10 6s2

a)

For n=3, there are 3s2 3p6 3d10

Number of electrons = 2 + 6 + 10 = 18

Answer: 18

b)

For d orbitals, 3d10, 4d10, 5d10

Number of electrons = 10 + 10 + 10 = 30

Answer: 30

c)

n=4 and l=3 is 4f orbital

In this orbital there are 14 electrons

Answer: 14, 4f
