bulk flow (in respiration) moves blood from?
Air in and out of lungs?
air into lungs?
lungs to body tissue or
all of the above?
I appreciate the details but none talked about bulk flow. Thank you!!
ANSWER
Bulk flow is the term referring to the movement of air into and out of lungs. Gases move from high-pressure area to a low-pressure area. This bulk flow of air from the outside environment to the alveoli of lungs happens due to pressure changes in the lungs. The movement of air into and out of the lungs is dependent on the partial pressure of Oxygen and Carbon dioxide. During inspiration, the partial pressure of oxygen in the environment is higher than that of the alveolus, so there is a bulk flow of oxygenated air from the environment to the alveoli. Similarly in the process of expiration as the partial pressure of Carbon dioxide is higher in the alveoli than that of the external environment, there is a bulk flow of carbon dioxide to the external environment.

Epinephrine causes muscles to contract and the heart and lungs to increase respiration and blood flow. In combination with epinephrine causing glucose production and secretion from the liver, how does epinephrine elicit a system wide response? Multiple Choice A.) Glucose provides energy for muscle contractions, which are stimulate by high concentrations of oxygen. Oxygen is provided by the increase in respiration and blood flow. B.) Glucose provides energy for muscle contractions, resulting in high levels of pyruvic acid. The pyruvic...
The function of surfactant is to? A. transport the oxygen from the air to the blood, B. transport the carbon dioxide from the blood to the air, C. prevent each alveolus from collapsing as air moves in and out during respiration, D. trap foreign particles as they enter the bronchial tree
Name R2 Pressure Changes and Air Flow Using the terms provided, complete these statements: Decreases Higher Increases Lower Pressure Volume The flow of air into and out of the lungs is govered by two physical principles: 1. Changes in volume result in changes in pressure. As the volume of a container increases, the pressure within the container (1), and as the volume of a container decreases, the pressure within the container (2) 2. Air flows from areas of (3) pressure...

Please answer to the part A,B,C
of the question below
In a normal respiratory cycle the volume of air that moves into and out of the lungs is about 494 mL. The reserve and residual volumes of air that remain in the lungs occupy about 1980 mL and a single respiratory cycle for an average human takes about 4 seconds. Find a model for the total volume of air Vt) in the lungs as a function of time. 01050- 34)...
Name 13. During gas exchange in the lungs, several factors affect the rate of gas diffusion across alveolar (the alveoli are tiny air sacs in the lungs) and tissue membranes. One of the factors is the difference in partial pressures of the gases across the membranes. The gases will diffuse from an area of high partial pressure to an area of low partial pressure, Look at the illustration below and note which blood vessels carry blood away from the lungs...

Which of the following statements would be correct bases on the data shown? Normal Aestrictie Obstructe FEY FYC FEYFYC FEY, FYC Volume (Liters) je Time (seconds) Select one: a. People with normal lungs can take up about five liters of air in one inhalation b. People with restrictive lung diseases will take longer time than people with obstructive lung diseases...

In the table below, indicate the relative oxygen and carbon dioxide levels found in the listed structures by writing high, low, or being exchanged. Structure Oxygen Levels Carbon dioxide levels Left atrium / left ventricle Aorta /systemic arteries Systemic capillaries Systemic veins/ vena cavae Right atrium / right ventricle Capillaries surrounding alveoli Pulmonary artery Pulmonary vein Heavy smokers often develop abnormally high...
ASSIGNMENTS 1. POSTING (5 pts) It is important for you to be vigilant when using medical terms. There are many that are confused. See the following list and choose one pair and post the meanings of each. You can use other terms you find on your own as well. Use the Discussion Board "Confused" or this link: Wk 12 Confused Respiratory System The respiratory system brings oxygen into the bloodstream, which can then transport it to all body cells. The...
