Mass of carbon = 81.71 grams

Moles of C = mass / molar mass

= 81.71 / 12

= 6.81

Mass of hydrogen = 18.29 grams

Moles of H = 18.29 / 1

= 18.29

Simplest ratio of C: H

= 6.81 : 18.29

= 3:8 ( integer form )

So empirical formula

C3H8
