  • The metal with higher reducing strength has the tendency to replace H from HCl.
  • In electrochemical series reducing strength increases from positive to negative value. Hence all the metal with negative reduction potential are stronger reducing agent then hydrogen gas and can replace H from HCl and get dissolved in the acid.
  • Reduction potential of given elements are as follow:
  • 2H+ = 0
  • Al3+ = -1.676
  • Ba2+ = -2.90
  • Na+ = -2.71
  • Mn2+ = -1.17
