Answer #1

The first major break in American foreign policy occurred in 1898 with the Spanish American war. The main issue was Cuban independence. The Spanish-American War impacted American society in several ways .The Americans gained control of Guam, Puerto Rico, and the Philippines. The Americans were now a colonial power and could begin to spread their way of living to other places.

The United States entered the war in 1917, there had been very little planning or even recognition of the problems that Great Britain and other Allies had to solve on their own home fronts.

In December 1941, after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor and the United States declaration of war against the Japanese Empire ,Nazi Germany declared war against the United States. The attack on Pearl Harbor left more than 2400 Americans dead and shocked the nation.

History of United States foreign policy is a brief overview of major trends regarding the foreign policy of the United States from the American Revolution to the present.
