The preferred fingers for capillary puncture site are the third and fourth finger of the hand in adults and children.

Thumb finger is not used because it has a pulse and likely to bleed exclusively.

Index finger is not used because can be calloused or sensitive .

Little finger can not be used because it does not have enough tissue to prevent hitting the bone with the lancet .

The puncture is done to the left or right of the midline of the Palmer surface of the fingertip and staying away from the fingernails.

So, according the above mentioned sites:-

1st figure is NR -means Not preferred for capillary puncture site.

2nd figure is R -means preferred for capillary puncture site.

3. The acceptable site for capillary puncture is done to the left or right to the midline of the Palmer surface of the fingertip. The pattern of the fingerprint shown on the finger segment is Radial loop.
