activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT) is used for monitoring unfractionated heparin. It is a functional measure of the intrinsic and common pathways of the coagulation cascade.

The widely used fixed therapeutic range for the aPTT is 1.5 to 2.5 times the control value.
