PMT is a photo emissive device results in the emission of electron. Photomultiplier tube (PMT) are detectors work by amplifying tge electrons generated by a photo cathode exposed to a photon flux. These are useful for light detection if very weak signals.

Photodiode arrays:

This is a semiconductor device that converts light into electrical current.

Pixels contain p-n junction, integrated capacitor and a selective transistor.

In this, each diode has spatial address. It is used for multichannel imaging and more useful tham PMT. It has disadvantage that response time is slow.

This is very common some in ultraviolet-visible instruments.
