#Iron level of adult person = 220 ug/dL

#Normal range of iron in adult = 170 ug/dL

# Patient blood volume =4.7 L

#Defroxamine molar mass = 656.8 g/mol

Deferoxamine bind with iron in 1:1 mole ratio , so we have to calculate amount of total iron in whole blood volume -

So

We know that, 1 Liter = 10 dL

Here total volume of blood in decilitres = 4.7 liter x 10

= 47 dL

As per information,

Iron level of adult =220 ug/dL

# Total iron in adult blood = 220 ug/dL x 47 dL

= 10340 ug of iron

# Normal iron in blood as per 170 ug/dL

= 170 ug/dL x 47 dL

=7990 ug of iron

# excess amount of iron in patient = (10340 ug - 7990 ug)

= 2350 ug of iron

We have to convert,

1 ug = 1 x10 -6 gram

2350 ug into gram = (2350 x 1 x 10-6)

=   0.00235 grams

# Molar mass of iron =55.84 g/mol

Now we have to calculate excess mol of iron in adult patient

= (mass of iron /molar mass of iron)

=(0.00235 g / 55.84 g/mol)

= 4.20 x 10 -5 mol

Now we have to calculate amount of deferoxamine require for calculated amount of iron = moles of iron (excess) x Molar mass of deferoxamine

= 4.20 x 10-5 mol x 656.8 g/mol

= 0.028 gram of deferoxamine dose require to knock excess iron from patient body
