In 2018 the total tax revenue received by Federal government was $3.3 trillion which was approximately 16.5% of GDP.

The largest portion of this tax revenue was from individual income tax which comprised of 51% of the total tax revenue.

Payroll taxes when the second highest comprising of 35% of the total tax revenue

Hence the answer is individual income tax.
