Answer #1

ClO- reacts with SO32- to form SO42- and Cl- following this equation-

ClO- + SO32-\rightarrow Cl- + SO42-

Oxidation Reaction

SO32-  \rightarrow SO42-

At first we need to equate the numbers of oxygen atom by adding H+  and H2O. Now in the LHS there is one oxygen less. So we have added one H2O in LHS and two H+ in RHS

SO32-  + H2O \rightarrow SO42- + 2H+

Next step is charge balancing. For this we need to add two electrons in RHS

SO32-  + H2O \rightarrow SO42- + 2H+ + 2e ....(1)

Reduction Reaction

ClO-  \rightarrow Cl-

At first we need to equate the numbers of oxygen atom by adding H+  and H2O. Now in the RHS there is one oxygen less. So we have added one H2O in RHS and two H+ in LHS

ClO- + 2H+\rightarrow Cl- + H2O

Next step is charge balancing. For this we need to add two electrons in LHS

ClO- + 2H+ + 2e \rightarrow Cl- + H2O ....(2)

(1) + (2)

ClO- + SO32-\rightarrow Cl- + SO42-
