A recent study suggested that drinking certain liquids before bed and hearing certain background noise (or the lack thereof) while sleeping can have an overall effect on the quality of sleep someone gets. Participants in week one drank a cup of green tea before bed and had no background noise for one night. For the second night, they drank a cup of green tea and played soothing background sounds. For the third night, they drank a cup of green tea and had the TV/radio playing in the background. The process was repeated in week 2 with drinking a glass of warm milk before bed, and in week 3 with drinking a glass of water before bed. After each night, the participant rated their quality of sleep with 1 = very poor, 2 = poor, 3 = fair, 4 = good, 5 = very, and 6 = excellent.

My question is: Which repeated measures ANOVA test should I run in SPSS to analyze this type of study - one-way, two-way, or three-way?

One way ANOVA need to be used to analysis the quality of sleep (a single or one factor), grouped in weeks from 1 to 3 at three different levels(k=3) or conditions under which the sleeping quality is measured to compare the means of the quality of sleep. The model used for doing One way analysis is given below.

Dependent or explanatory variables Independent or response variable Groups Drinking certain liquids before bed Hearing certain background noise Quality of sleep Factor Levels drank a cup of green tea before bed and no background noise drank a cup of green tea before bed and playing soothing background sounds drank a cup of green tea before bed and playing TV/radio Quality of sleep Week1 Week2 drank a cup of warm milk before bed and no background noise drank a cup of warm milk before bed and playing soothing background sounds drank a cup of warm milk before bed and playing TV/radio Week3 drank a glass of water before bed and no background noise drank a glass of water before bed and playing soothing background sounds drank a glass of water milk before bed and playing TV/radio
