greater reactivity leads to decomposition at elevations below the stratospheric ozone concentration maximum
HCFCs, hydrochlorofluorocarbons are replacing the place of CFCs. CFCs generally goes to the stratospheric ozone layer and react there with it results in the depletion of ozone layer. CFCs are not much reactive with the atmospheric gases and hence they move easily to the ozone layer.
However, Hydrochlorofluorocarbons, HCFCs are more reactive than CFCs due to the presence of hydrogen atoms. They react with the atomospheric gases easily and undergoes decomposition before they go to react with ozone.
HCFCs are environmentally superior than CFCs due to their reactivity only. They contain chlorine. Their reactivity and not molecular weight which is responsible for their decomposition.
