- POHL Consider two solutions, A and B, both a beaker but separated by a semipermeable membrane. The membrane allows small molecules and ions to pass through, but not large molecules like polysaccharides and proteins. Solution A contains a 5% solution of glucose and albumin (a protein) dissolved in water. Solution B contains a 10% solution of sodium chloride and starch dissolved in water. Determine which way each substance will flow. 1 water 1 sodium chloride 1. Substance will flow into solution A. 2 starch 2. Substance will flow into solution B. 3 albumin 3. Substance will not flow. 2 glucose

Water will flow into solution B

as solution B is more concentrated than solution A, and water always move from its higher concentration (dilited solution) to its lower concentration(concentrated solution).

NaCL will flow into solution A

as some ions can pass through the semipermeable membrane, and ions will flow from higher concentrated solution to the lower concentrated solution.

starch and albumin can't pass through the semipermeable membrane as they are polysaccharide and protein respectively.

Glucose as a monosaccharide, can pass through the semipermeable membrane. It will flow to solution B.
