By using the formula,
fo = (v*fs)/(v - vp)
where, fo is observed frequency
v is speed of sound in air
fs is frequency of the source
vp is speed of the person moving towards the whistle.
Since the person is moving towards the whistle the velocities are subtracted.
The observed frequency is higher than the frequency of the whistle because the person is moving closer.
So the observed wavelength is smaller.
Wavelength is inversely proportional to frequency. So frequency should be higher.
fo = 800*340.6/( 340.6 - 15)
= 836.9 Hz

A siren mounted on the roof of a firehouse emits sound at a frequency of 900 Hz. A steady wind is blowing with a speed of 12.0 m/s. Firefighters are approaching the siren from various directions at 15.0 m/s. What frequency does a firefighter hear if he is approaching from an upwind position so that he is moving in the direction in which the wind is blowing? (Speed of sound in calm air to be 340 m/s 1.

How can you tell? b) If you heard a 300-Hz tone with a sound level of 60 dB, approximately how many phons would you perceive? toward you with a speed v, starting a distance of 1 km away att 0. 2. (19 points) You are driving along a highway when you hear the siren of a police car driving at approaching you from behind, and you perceive the frequency as 1320 Hz. You are relieved that he is in pursuit of a speeding Porsche 911car when he continues past you, but now you perceive the frequency as 1265 Hz. (The speed of sound in the air is 344 m/s.) m/ a) What is the frequency of the siren in the...
you are driving along a highway at 35.0 m/s when you hear the siren of a police car approaching you from behind at constant speed and you perceive the frequency as 1310 Hz. you are relieved that he is in pursuit of a different driver when he continues past you, but now you perceive the frequency as 1240 hz. what is the frequency of the siren in the police car? the speed of sound in air is 343 m/s
You are driving at a velocity of 95 MPH (42.5 m/s) when you hear a police siren behind you. From your previous run-ins with the law, you know that at a particular point in the sound, the police sirens on the police cars in your town emit a frequency of 751.255 Hz. You hear the sound at a frequency of 752.551 Hz. How fast the the police car going (in m/s)? (Assume that the speed of sound is 343 m/s.)
The siren on an ambulance is emitting a sound whose frequency is 2850 Hz. The speed of sound is 343 m/s. (a) If the ambulance is stationary and you (the "observer") are sitting in a parked car, what are the wavelength and the frequency of the sound you hear? (b) Suppose that the ambulance is moving toward you at a speed of 26.6 m/s. Determine the wavelength and the frequency of the sound you hear. (c) If the ambulance is...
Tutorial Sound Waves . A sound source which produces sound of frequency 300 Hz moves along a straight line and passes by a stationary observer. The observer notices that the frequency of sound heard change Speed of sound in air 330 m s-1] 0when the sound is moving away from him. Determine the speed of the sound source. its siren emitting a sound of frequency 600.0 Hz moves with a speed of me that the speed of sound is 345...
A fire truck with sirens on, is driving north on a street. A car is driving south on the same street and sees the fire truck ahead. The car is moving at a speed of 15.7 m/s and the fire truck is moving at a speed of 31.8 m/s. The siren of the fire truck produces a 965 Hz sound. The speed of sound in air is 343 m/s. What frequency does the person in the car hear? If the...
You are driving down the road at 15.6 m/s (35 mph) when an ambulance passes you with its siren blaring. The ambulance siren produces a frequency of 700 Hz. As the ambulance approaches you from behind, you hear a frequency of 730 Hz . The speed of sound in air is 344 m/s. What is the speed of the ambulance? The positive direction points from your car (listener) toward the ambulance (source). Express your answer in meters per second.
1 Consider the case where you hear the police siren at a frequency of 800 Hz when approaching and 400 Hz after passing you. How fast is the police traveling? 2. approaching and 450 Hz after passing you, but because of changes in the atmosphere, the speed of sound is 300 m/s. How fast is the police traveling? Consider the case where you hear the police siren at a frequency of 800 Hz when 3. If the police car is...
