Ans 1:Given:

Volume= 500 ml 5% DW

Time= 4 hours

Drop factor= 10 gtts/ml

To find= IV flow rate

Formula : IV flow rate= Volume / Time * DropFactor

Rate= 500 / 4 * 10 =1250 ml / hour

Flow rate is 1250 ml per hour.

Ans 2: Given:

Volume1=500 ml Volume2= 300 ml

Time1= 5 hours Time2=1 hour

Drop factor=12 gtts/ml

To find=IV rate

Solution : In this problem 500 ml D5/0.45NS is orderedin 5hours but in 1 hour 200 ml volume is over. in bottle 300 ml remains.we have to rcalculate the rate so that this 300 ml volume will end in correct 5 hours time.

Therefore Iv rate= volume / Time * drop factor

Rate=300 /5 *12 = 720 drops/ hour

Ans 3: Given:

Drop rate= 23 gtts/min

Drop factor= 10 gtts/ml

To find= ml/hour

Solution:

i) In this question , if we will divide 23 drops/min by 10 drops/ml we will find out how many ml per minute.

ii ) Divide ml/min by 60 to find ml/hour as 1hour=60 min

Therefore: 23 / 10 =2.3 ml/ min

Now 2.3 / 60 =0.0383 ml / hour

Therefore the patient is recieving 0.038 ml per hour.
