Question

aldehyde alkyl halide amide carboxylic acid saturated hydrocarbon unsaturated hydrocarbon

out of the list of options what is the functional group of this molecular structure.

i've come up with that the below is isobutane? but everything i read shows this as an alkane and im confused why the functional group wont match my list of options?

please can someone break this down for me.

Answer #1

• Unsaturated hydrocarbons have double or triple covalent bonds between adjacent carbon atom. Example- alkenes and alkynes.

•Saturated hydrocarbons have only single bonds between carbon atoms. Example- alkanes

•Aldehydes have -CHO group

•Alkyl halides are derived from alkanes. One or more hydrogen atoms are replaced by halogens like fluorine, chlorine, bromine, iodine.

•Amides is a functional group containing Carbonyl group linked to nitrogen atom.

•Carboxylic acid contains carboxyl group (-COOH)

Above molecular structure is of isobutane. And isobutane is an alkane having only single bond between carbon atoms, thus isobutane comes under saturated hydrocarbons.

Answer- Saturated hydrocarbon.
