Do consumers really care about preserving the environment? Cite examples to support your position.
Case Specifics
Consumers in their daily lives conduct activities which help them in satisfying their needs, wants and desires on the basis of the amounts of money which they earn as a result.
Recent indications have shown, that how much the earth has been destroyed by human civilizations primarily after the industrial revolution. People find it increasingly needed that they require more facilities for themselves even if it meant degradation of the environment.
Governments do impose restrictions on consumers but in most countries, the global environmental degradation footprint which is a key indicator on the levels of pollution clearly indicate that consumers care very little about preserving the environment.
Even when consumers are aware of the fact for an example that air conditioners are extremely bad for global warming, there still seems to be no stopping. The effects of plastic on marine life is well known, but consumers still use it for their own benefits. Further the transition to electric cars is so tough for people that even after knowing how traditional fossil fuel is harming the society, people still prefer to use the same for their own benefit.
Given a choice and budge, people would still prefer buying their own cars because of superior comfort than use public transport methods like metros which pollute much lesser
Conclusion
The society has been built across most countries for satisfaction of self needs and wants regardless of their effects on the society. The resultant of this is that most people fail to realize the larger good and it is the government which is expected to create checks and balances instead of each individual doing their bit.
The society as we today know will only survive if we implemented procedures to keep a check and each individual did their bit to have a sustainable economy and a world that does not end in a generation or two.
