Answer #1

Secondary quantum number (l) has values of 0 to n -1. Total values = n

Magnetic quantum number has values of - l to + l , including 0. total values = 2l +1

so for an electron off an atom having principle quantum number 4 has following possible values of secondary and magnetic quantum number.

principle quantum number (n) secondary quantum number (l) magnetic quantum number(ml)
4 3 ( f orbital) -3,-2,-1,0, +1+2+3
2 ( d orbital) -2,-1,+1,0,+1,+2
1 ( p orbital) -1,0-1
0 ( s orbital) 0
