There are total 4 types of quantum number which are
1. Principal quantum number (n)
2. Secondary quantum number(l)
3. Magnetic quantum number (ml)
4. Magnetic spin quantum number (ms)
Possible values of this quantum numbers can be calculated by following general rules
To calculate l , l n-1. Therefore, all the values which are less than equal to n-1 are the possible values of l. It can not be negative.
To calculate ml , -l ml l. Thus, all the values between -l and l are the possible values of this quantum number.
Valuea of ms is always +1/2 or -1/2.
Here, n=4
According to the above rule, l= 0,1,2,3.
ml = 0, if l=0
ml = -1,0,1 if l=1
ml = -2,-1,0,1,2 if l=2
ml= -3,-2,-1,0,1,2,3 if l=3.

The Pauli Exclusion Principle tells us that no two electrons in an atom can have the same four quantum numbers. For an electron in the 2p orbital shown above, enter a possible value for each quantum number. n= mı = Give ONE example. mg = Give ONE example. Though a given electron only has one value for m, there are __ possible m values for electrons in 2p orbitals. The Pauli Exclusion Principle tells us that no two electrons in...
