The service you work for is doing intake interviews. You are interviewing a new service user called Beverley to obtain details for her individualised care plan. Beverley is Sudanese and speaks minimal English. She appears very nervous in the interview.

In cross-cultural communication, the language will be the major barrier that added a dimension of complexity. Effective cross-cultural communication can help to solve the problem.
-Non-native English speakers will have difficulty understanding English slang and idioms. use simple words and avoid slang to understand the words, use normal conversational speed.
-Have proper eye contact while talking and be an active listener to improve cross-cultural communication and avoiding fear and anxiety. ask them frequent questions in short exchange to understand them clearly.
- write written words or question with picture identification to understand clearly and avoid closed questions like yes or no and ask them open-ended questions that provide more information.
-Be aware of their cultural, beliefs, norms and avoid negative effects through questions, use interpreter help if needed.
