Every day the weather allows you try to get the children outdoors for fresh air. Selina is a 4.5 year old girl who takes a long time to get ready. She dawdles until you have to practically dress her yourself. Even then, she is insistent that everything is "just right." If the socks are rumpled in her boots, or it is not the hat she wants, if her shoes are not perfectly set in her cubby, she refuses to cooperate. If you get stern with her and demand she overlook some of these details, she falls apart and dissolves into uncontrollable crying. In an effort to help everyone get outdoors, and provide adequate supervision for the group, you have "given in" and just plan to allow 15 minutes of your time to help her get ready. As far as you know there are no unusual circumstances at home that would be causing this behavior. Using the PIES of development, what do you think is the developmental need behind her behavior? What would you do about this?  HINT:  She is NOT seeking attention, as she does not have these issues except when preparing to out outdoors.  Giving your own ideas as well as responding to others will result in points.

- Physical Development

Changes to the body and its systems.

Development of the processes in the brain such as thought, knowledge and memory.

- Emotional Development

The development of a full range of emotions - (Feelings and moods) and the way people express, understand and exercise control over them.

- Social Development

The increasing complexity of behaviour patterns used in relationships with other people.

In this case ,the child is having problem with social development because she is only having issues when preparing to go outdoors.
