Answer #1

Normal BUN is 7 to 20 mg per dl or 2.5 to 7.1 mmol per litre.

Increased BUN levels due to urinary tract infection, congestive heart failure or recent heart attack, high protein diet, renal disorders, shock , gastrointestinal bleeding,, dehydration, several antibiotics etc. Increased blood urea nitrogen shows that the kidney is not functioning well.

Decreased BUN is due to syndrome of inappropriate anti diuretic hormone, over hydration, anabolic state,, severe liver disorder, hypervolemia etc.
