Question

A child swings a bat at a tee, missing the ball on top and hitting theF tee instead. Draw a free-body diagram of the tee and use it to find the e reaction forces and moment at the base of the tee. Model the base of the tee as a fixed support. Assume that the magnitude of the force F- 300 N, that it strikes the tee at a distance d-1 m from the support at the ground, and that it is applied at an angle θ-20° with respect to the horizontal axis. Additionally, assume that the tee has a total length l- 1.25 m, and that its weight w 100 N is concentrated at the point halfway from the bottom of the tee to its top. Neglect any forces associated with the ball. (Units: N for forces, N m for moments)

Answer #1

from the force diagram , force equation along the vertical direction is given as

- F Sin\theta - w + Fy = 0

inserting the values

- 300 Sin20 - 100 + Fy = 0

Fy = 202.6 N

from the force diagram , force equation along the horizontal direction is given as

F Cos\theta - Fx = 0

300 Cos20 - Fx = 0

Fx = 282 N

Torque equation is given as

\tau = F Cos\theta (d)

\tau = 300 Cos20 (1)

\tau = 281.91 Nm
