the general reaction fro this unknown compound as follows:

CxHyOz + ?O2 -----> ?CO2 + ? H2O

             

Given that
the mass of the compound = 3.00 g
the mass of the CO2 = 4.40 g
the mass of the H2O = 1.80 g.

Moles of CO2 = 4.40 g/44.01 g/ mole

= 0.0999 moles CO2

0.099 moles CO2 produce 0.0999 moles C

Moles of H2O = 1.80g /18.02 g/ mole

= 0.0999 mole H2O

1 mole H2O gives two mole sH

So, 0.0999 mole H2O will have 0.200 moles H
