Answer #1

SOLN 2

Cu(A) + 2HNO3(B) - ---- - -- - > Cu(C)(NO3)2(D) + H2(E)

oxidation number of any element in its standard state is 0

hence oxidation number of Cu is 0

in HNO3 H is in +1 N is in +5 and let say O is B hence 1+5+3B = 0 hence B = -2

In Cu(C)(NO3)2 we know NO3 has overall -1 charge s for two NO3^- there will be -2 hence Cu will be +2

and D is oxygen in NO3 which is calculated earlier -2

and H in H2 is 0

therefore

A = 0 ; B = -2 ; C = +2 ; D = -2 ; E = 0
