- both information governance and data governance are subfield under the boarder umbrella of RIM,but they are often used interchangeably or confused as one and the same .

Differences : information governance tend to be associated with business and compliance driven approach to managing the use ,relation and disposition of balance records .

- data governance is usually an IT responsibility it accouts for all data .

- both data govetnance and information governance has structured and unstructured data .

- Data governance includes data security ,data lineage,data service levels , master data management and data loss prevention .

- information governance includes categorization ,information life cycle ,definition of use ,information access ,secure disposition and e Discovery.
