Hydroboration/ oxidation of alkene gives "anti-markovnikovs" product which means hydrogen is attached to the carbon having fewer hydrogens and therefore a least substituted alcohol is formed.

Oxymercuration of alkene goes via "markovnikovs" addition means hydrogen is attached to the carbon having more hydrogens and therefore a highly substituted alcohol is formed.

In the first reaction, an alkene is isolated so both procedures will give the same alkene as the double bond has the same number of hydrogens while in the second case a more substituted alcohol is formed.

Therefore,

answer: reaction 1 = Hydroboration / oxidation

reaction 2 = Oxymercuration
