Answer #1

52. Given data:

Ordered dose of argatroban : 2 mcg/kg/min, Patient weight is 88 kg

IV bag contain 250mg of argatroban in 250mL, hence concentration of the drug in IV bag = 250mg/250mL= 1 mg/mL

Concentration of drug is 1 mg/mL = 1000 mcg/mL ( 1 mg = 1000 mcg).

Flow rate (mL/hr) = (Ordered dose x Weight x 60 min) / Concentration of the drug

= (2 x 88 x 60)/ 1000

= 10560 / 1000 = 10.56 mL/hr = 11mL/hr

Answer is Flow rate = 11mL/hr

54. Given data

Ordered dose of heparin = 1400 units/hr

Available heparin is 30000 units in 500 mL, hence concentration is 30000 units / 500 mL = 60 units/ mL

Flow rate (mL/hr) = Ordered dose / Concentration of the drug

= 1400 / 60 = 23.33 mL/hr = 23 mL/hr

Answer is The nurse has to set infusion pump at 23 mL/hr

55. Given data

Ordered dose of meperidine is 75 mg

Available meperidine is 50 mg / mL

Drug to be administered in mL = (ordered dose) x( Available volum)/ Avialable dose

= (75 mg x 1 mL) / 50mg

= 75 / 50 = 1.5 mL

Answer is The nurse has to administer 1.5 mL of meperidine to the patient through IM

56. Given data

ordered dose of Rubittusin is 250 mg QID (4 times a day)

Available dose is 500 mg/5 mL

mL of drug per dose to be administered = (250 x 5) / 500 = 2.5 mL

2.5 mL QID has to be administered. Hence in a day the nurse has to administer 2.5 mL x 4 = 10 mL of the drug (QID = 4 times)

So the answer is mL of the drug the nurse should administer per day is 10 mL
