Answer #1

48.Given

Order:Nitroprusside

Dose:3mcg/kg/min

Route:IV

Weight:85kg

When 1kg=3mcg

Then 85 kg=??mcg

=85×3÷1

=85×3

=255mcg

To convert in mg divide by 1000

=255÷1000

=0.25 mg

Available:50mg=250ml

When 50mg=250 ml

Then 0.25mg=??ml

Cross multiply and divide

=0.25×250÷50

=62.5÷50

=1.25 ml

Ans:Upon rounding off it is 1.3 ml

49.Given

Order:Inamrinone

Dose:0.015mg/kg/min

Available:200mg=500ml

Weight:149lbs(0.454×149=67.6 kg)

When 1kg=0.015mg /min

Then 67.6 kg=?? mg/min

Cross multiply and divide

=67.6×0.015÷1

=67.6×0.015

=1.01 mg/min or 1mg/min

When200mg=500ml

Then 1mg=??ml

Cross multiply and divide

=1×500÷200

=500÷200

=2.5 ml

Ans:2.5ml  to be infused per min

50. Given

Order:Amiodorone

Dose:2mg/min

Available:900mg in 500ml D5W

So 2mg=??ml

Cross multiply and divide

=2×500÷900

=1000÷900

=1.11ml/min

Ans:Upon rounding of it is 1.1ml/min to be to be infused

51.Given

Order:Procainamide

Dose:5.5mg/min

Route:IV

Available:2g=500ml D5W (2000mg=500ml D5W)

Therefore 5.5mg=??ml

Cross multiply and divide

=5.5×500÷2000

=2750÷2000

=1.375 ml or 1.4 ml/min

When 1.4ml=1min

Then 500ml=??min

Cross multiply and divide

=500×1÷1.4

=500÷1.4

=357 min

To calculate in hours divide by 60

=357÷60

=5.95 or 6 hour

Flow rate:Total volume (ml)÷Total time(hour)

=500÷6

=83.33

Ans:Upon rounding off it is 83.3 ml/hour
