How did Anglo-American settlers in Texas see themselves? Did they adopt a Mexican identity because they were living in Mexican territory? Why or why not?
After the establishment of Mexican revolution , Mexico encouraged settlement of people from U.S. They belived that these industrious people and farmers would help to build Mexico into a prosperous nation . Mexican government granted land to people from United States who will obey the Mexican law , convert to Catholicism and would learn to speak Spanish. And those who married a Mexican women were granted additional land and they were automatically granted Mexican citizenship.
In West Texas ,the Anglo Americans and Mexicans were in good relation and there was a good mixing of the races ,they considered themselves as Mexicans because of the access to land ,while in East Texas ,it was opposite. They did not allowed their children to learn Spanish ,and does not wanted to get converted to Catholicism hence, they does not considered themselves as Mexicans because they were aware that all the grants were allowed to make them work hard to make the nation properours
