Question

11- 15) What nuclear medicine imaging procedures would F-Fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) be used for? Selectin one of these procedures, look up the biological half life for this radiopharmaceutical and the physical half life of and calculate the effective half-life (Te) for the radiopharmaceutical. Show your work! 16-20) Name two (2) different radionuclide generators showing the parent isotope and daughter isotope as well a their principal modes of decay and the half lives of the parent and daughter. Indicate at least two (2) nuclear medicine procedures in which the daughter isotope is used.

Answer #1

11-15)F-Flurodeoxyglucose is used in PET scan to assess the glucose metabolism in heart, lumlungs and major organs.511keV gamma photon is the principal photon used in it.The biological half life is 110 min at 70% and 16 min at 20%.The physical half life is 20% is ecexcreted via urine in 2 hours.

16-20)Radionuclide generators are one ehich are generated where the daughter isotopes are also radioactive and thereby can be used in scanning.

99MO /99TC is a commonly used radionuclide generator where the parent half life is 65.94 hour and daughter half life is 99mTC is the daughter isotope. The decay mode is by Beta emission .In General it has a half life of.2.7489(6)d

93 NO has a half life of 4000 (800)y.The decay mode is EC .The daughter isotope will be 93Nb
