Answer #1

This compound belongs to the class of heterocyclic compounds. Heterocyclic compounds are the ring compounds having atoms of elements other than carbon in the ring such as oxygen, nitrogen, sulphur , etc .

Some of the common heterocyclic compounds having five membered rings with one hetero atom are pyrrole , furan , thiophene and examples of those with two hetero atoms in five membered rings are imidazole, oxazole, thiazole etc.

Pyrrole ring contains nitrogen (N) as the heteroatom, furan ring contains oxygen (O) as heteroatom, thiophene ring contains sulphur (S) as heteroatom and in case of rings containing two heteroatoms , the compounds having their common names ending with 'azole' have N atom fixed as one heteroatom while the other heteroatom varies according to the prefix. So imidazole contains 2 N atoms, oxazole contains 1 O and 1 N atom while thiazole contains 1 N and 1 S atom.

The structures of these common compounds are as shown below :

NA NAR QAISA SON Pyroole. Furan ThiopheneImidazole OxazoleThiazole

So the correct name for the given compound is 'Thiophene' .
