Part 2 Questions
Briefly (3 sentences) relate your observations from this demonstration to the process of digestion. What functions of the digestive system does this exercise demonstrate? How does that process relate to the metabolic work within cells of the body? (3pts)
Which organ(s) is/are responsible for the process modeled by bowl “B”? Answer all that apply (1pt)
A. The mouth
B. The esophagus
C. The stomach
D. The small intestine
Which organ(s) is/are responsible for the process modeled by bowl “C”? Answer all that apply (1pt) – please note – the main ingredient in gelatin is collagen.
A. The salivary glands
B. The stomach
C. The pancreas
D. The liver
If this process were repeated with bowls of lipid, what organ(s) would be responsible for producing the secretions that aid in chemical digestion? Answer all that apply (1pt)
A. The salivary glands
B. The gallbladder
C. The stomach
D. The liver
Finally, think about the processes within the body that make up “metabolism”. Identify three factors that will (in general) cause a person to have a lower BMR. (3pts)

organ(s) responsible for producing the secretions that aid in chemical digestion of Fat are
ANSWER IS salivary gland, stomach,liver
salivary gland secrete
Stomach secrete
Gastric lipase: Gastric lipase is an acidic lipase secreted by the gastric chief cells in the fundic mucosa in the stomach. It has a pH optimum of 3–6. Gastric lipase, together with lingual lipase, comprise the two acidic lipases. These lipases, unlike alkaline lipases (such as pancreatic lipase), do not require bile acid or colipase for optimal enzymatic activity. Acidic lipases make up 30% of lipid hydrolysis occurring during digestion in the human adult.
Gall bladder only stores the Bile. it does not prodce the bile
Liver produces bile, it help in the digestion of lipids
2)
Age. As you get older, your metabolic rate generally slows. This is because of a loss of muscle tissue and changes to hormonal and neurological processes. During development children go through periods of growth with extreme rates of metabolism.
Body size : smaller body has low BMR compared to the bigger body
sex: females have low BMR compared to male
Muscle mass. The amount of muscle tissue on your body. Muscle requires more energy to function than fat.So person with low amount of muscle mass will have low BMR.
physical activity: sedentary workers have low BMR
