The gifts ranged from $200 tickets to professional sports events to designer watches and jewelry.
  2. A college instructor is pursuing her doctorate in night school. To gain extra time for her own studies, she gives her students the same lectures, the same assignments, and the same examinations semester after semester without the slightest effort to improve them.
  3. Todd and Edna have been married for three years. They have had serious personal problems. Edna is a heavy drinker, and Todd cannot keep a job. Instructions
This is a group activity. You will work in the same groups as before. You may wish to meet throughout the week to share ideas. Collaborate with your team, using email, phone meetings, or any collaboration tool you find useful or prefer.

For this assignment, addresses each dilemma in this assignment. For each dilemma, address the following:

  • Identify the consequences of the actions taken
  • Determine whether the actions taken represented a greater good, who would benefit from the good, and whether the consequences ethically justify the decisions and actions.
  • How would Locke have addressed or solved the problem? You may also address whether or not your team agrees with Locke and, if not, state how you would address it differently. Be sure to explain your reasoning.

Your group will submit both of the following:

  • A written reportthat discusses all three ethical dilemmas in depth (Be sure to give equal time to each dilemma.)
  • An oral presentation (using VoiceThreador a PowerPoint narrated slide show) that summarizes the report and examines the ethical ideas beyond the particulars of the dilemmas.

Answer #1

1)The mayor is a public figure who should do good towards the people. He accepted gifts such as expensive watches and free memberships. He is being unethical. And when a person gives gifts to higher positioned people expect something in return when that the person is mayor of the city. And it is bribe.

Locke believe in moral judgement and he would say that mayor is being unethical and our teams quite agree with Locke because he is accepting gifts from people who may do business regarding the city in future. So it is unethical and the mayor is being self serving.

2)The college instructor is being unethical and self serving she may be pursuing her doctrine but it does not mean she can do things that benefit her.She is giving same lecture and assignments and she is not changing the lecture from semester to semester. She is being selfish and not giving her utmost for her job as a teacher. She is getting ideas from her students and revewinre her own assignments in class. And the other things is students are not able to improve their knowledge and can copy the answers from other people who already completed their semester prior to them.

Probably Locke would approve with the instructor because she is providing them lectures, examinations and assignments.

But our team does not agree with Locke because the teacher should be able to teach new things to the students and provide be able to give their utmost to the teaching so that the students may benefit. So input opinion the instructor is being unethical.

3)Todd and Edna are being unethical because the child which is born may not be able to solve the problems which they are facing. As Edna is the one who is financially able to support them and she is pregnant know and she cannot work for a long time and this may decrease their income an dlcause many problems and Todd cannot keep his job so they will also face financial problems.

Locke would agree that they are being selfish because he thinks that people should face their own problems and solve them. But in this case they are being unethical.

I would also agree with Locke because they should first solve their differences and ensure that they can be responsible first but they are having a baby and hoping that the baby will make them responsible. And they are unethical and may likely ruin baby childhood by their constant arguments.
