Answer #1

Ans) Energy requirement is the amount of food energy needed to balance energy expenditure in order to maintain body size, body composition and a level of necessary and desirable physical activity consistent with long-term good health.

- Gender, age and body weight are the main determinants of total energy expenditure. Thus, energy requirements are presented separately for each gender and various age groups, and are expressed both as energy units per day and energy per kilogram of body weight.
- The EER is calculated from a set of equations and factors that account for an individual's energy intake, energy expenditure, age, sex, weight, height, and physical activity level (PAL).
- To determine your protein needs in grams (g), first calculate your weight in kilograms (kg) by dividing your weight in pounds by 2.2. Next, decide how many grams of protein per kilogram of body weight is appropriate for you. Use the low end of the range if you are in good health and are sedentary: 0.8g per kg.
