/Mr Robert Jones is an 80-year old retired medical doctor who has dementia. He has been a resident in aged care for the past five years. As a result of his dementia, Robert’s behaviour is aggressive at times. He seems to favour specific staff and is cooperative for them. Three student nurses Jan, Michelle and Margaret, were on their first clinical placement in a residential care facility. The student nurses were under the supervision of an educator and the care staff. Early in the shift, Jan discussed Bob’s behaviours with Michelle and Margaret, advising them on how to manage him. She told them to pull Robert’s thumb back to release his grip or tie his hands to the bed rails with the bed sheet if he became aggressive. She stated that she had seen a TV show in which police pulled someone’s thumb back to release their grip. Although Michelle and Margaret felt uncomfortable with Jan’s advice, they didn’t comment. Later in that shift, in the dining room, Robert grabbed Michelle’s arm tightly and wouldn’t let go. Michelle called out for help. Jan was in the dining room at the time and immediately came over to assist. She pulled Robert’s thumb back to release his grip, which seemed to exacerbate Roberts’s behaviour as he then tried to hit Michelle in the chest. Michelle was upset that Jan had pulled back Robert’s thumb causing him to retaliate and reported the incident to the educator. The educator discussed the situation with Jan. Jan became very defensive and rejected the feedback from the educator. 1- make a summary describe this case and the areas to be covered
