Description: This exercise is designed to help you think about collection strategies. People often have a difficult time asking each other for money and discussing financial matters. Practice will help ease the stress of this task especially should you obtain a job that requires that type of interaction. Instructions: Below are six-collection scenarios, give a written description of how you would handle these situations. Your description should be a minimum of 50 to 100 words for EACH scenario and be specific to the scenario. You may describe what you would say to the patient and proceed to resolution of the issue. There is not an exactly correct answer to these scenarios. You must complete FIVE of the scenarios for a total of 3 points each (15 points total). You may choose to complete all six scenarios for up to 3 points extra credit. Grammar and spelling count for 20% of the grade. She has avoided paying this co-pay on previous visits and has a balance of $50.00. The previous visits occurred within the last two months (December and January). Scenario 3: Your patient, Joshua Cagle, has no insurance but needs a procedure that will cost $250.00. He is employed as a waiter at a local restaurant and is also a full time, single college student. How will you negotiate a payment plan? He will be seen in the office again in three months. You have been instructed by the office manager to contact him by phone. You are able to reach him at his home number. Scenario 5: A 10 year old child, Michael Smith, has an unpaid balance of $102. His father accompanies him to the office today. Will you discuss the account in the presence of the child? If yes, how? Scenario 1

  In this scenario, I would inform Ms. Mary Schmidt when she comes for the follow up that, you have an unpaid balance of $80.00, that you might have forgotten to pay in your last visit. So kindly pay the due amount before consulting the physician.

Scenario 2

In this scenario, what I will do is I will inform Mr. Jones that your copayments of the last two visits are due now. So you should pay it immediately, then only you are allowed to consult the physician. Your due amount is $50.

Scenario 3

  First of all, I will inform him that it is a costly procedure and paying $250.00 without insurance would be difficult for you. However, you have an attractive offer from our side that, if you pay the entire amount within 60 days you can avail a discount of 20% out of the total amount.

Scenario 4

  In this scenario, I will directly make a phone call at his home address and inform him that, all your insurance claims have been declined and you are no longer eligible for any insurance claims. Because of that, you have a balance of $342.25. If possible kindly do measures to settle the balance amount immediately. Otherwise, you can settle it in your next hospital visit, which will be in three months.

Scenario 5

I will definitely discuss the amount in the presence of Master Smith. Because if he does something wrong this is the best time to confess and correct it.
