Jason is 11 years old and has type one diabetes. He was diagnosed with diabetes when he was five years old. He's comfortable taking his blood sugar pretty during the day. He likes to participate in sport and is one of the soccer team, which practice three times a week after school. His mother always packs his lunch for school so he does not have to worry about eating the food in the cafeteria.

Breakfast - 2 slices of bread with egg omelette and a glass of milk .

Snacks - two -three dry fruits

Lunch - 3 chapati with curry and salad

Snacks - health drink , fruits

Dinner - 1/2 cup of rice with curry , salad

#. Three issues / considerations regarding nutrition , diabetes , and children the nurse must be aware of :-

- the child must never miss his food as it could lead to hypoglycemia

- prevent injuries because in diabetes healing is delayed and will result in complications such as gangrene

- regular monitoring of blood glucose levels
