Answer #1

P1 = 0.88, Q1 = 513, P2 = 0.99 and Q2 = 363

Elasticity of demand = % change in quantity demanded / % change in price

= [(Q2 - Q1)/{(Q1 + Q2)/2}] X 100 / [(P2 - P1)/{(P1 + P2)/2}] X 100

= (P1 + P2)/(Q1 + Q2) x (Q2 - Q1)/(P2 - P1)

= (0.88 + 0.99)/(513 + 363) x (363 - 513)/(0.99 - 0.88)

= 1.87/876 x - 150/0.11 = - 2.91

Demand is elastic because Ed is greater than 1.

Increase in price decreases total revenue while decrease in price increases total revenue.

Demand is elastic, so decreasing ticket prices will increase total revenue.
