CVP means central venous pressure that describes the pressure in the thoracic vena cava near the right atrium. There are several factors that cause increase in the CVP are:

  • increase in venous blood volume
  • decrease in venous compliance.
  • Venous constriction
  • Changing from standing to supine body posture
  • Arterial dilation
  • Muscle contraction
