Aseptic technique is the use of practices and procedures to prevent contamination from pathogens. Here we are using strictest rules to minimize the risk of infection.
role of aseptic technique is very important in compounding medications. It focuses to meet the clinical needs of patients, satisfying quality, safety, and environmental control requirements in all phases of preparation, storage, transportation and administration in compliance with the established standards, regulations, and professional best practices.
clean garbing
important to protect the sterile compounding environment and ultimately the compound for sterile preparation. it is to be done correct sequence.
1 do hair cover, face mask, and beard cover.
2 do shoe covers and cross the LOD
3 Perform hand hygiene
4 Do non shedding of gown
5 Do sterile gloving
garbing can consists of aprons, sleeves, gloves, hoods, shoe covers, coveralls, head coverings, lab coats, smocks, shirts/ pants, hats/ caps, face mask and beard covers. the entire process is designed to reduce the particle shedding count from personnel. on wearing during aseptic technique it provides some level of microbial containment, but complete containment is not possible. it helps in reducing the microbial burden.
Horizontal laminar airflow
laminar flow hood are designed to protect samples and parts from particulate contamination. horizontal hood will move air from the back of the unit through the help of filters and to the front of the work surface. it has two main functions :1. to filter bacteria and exogenous material from the air 2. to maintain constant air flow out of the hood to prevent contaminated room air from entering the hood. the main function of it in a compounding unit is to prevent the chances of contamination of medications during compounding. it also helps to prevent the spread of infection from the compounding person. it also has its importance in controlling the side effects that may happen during the compounding process due to inhalation, accidental ingestion etc
