Answer #1

A process is a program under execution, that means whatever program is written, it is useless unless it becomes a process. A process allows to access the memory, and use system resources for the execution. Basically whatever you are doing on a computer system is done by some kind of process.

There are two kind of processes, system and user, a system process is used by OS to control the resources of the computer system. Whereas a user process is a user defined process which may or may not interact with system processes for its execution. For example a user may make a calculator program which during its execution works as a user process and uses system resources.

Without OS a computer is like a body without brain, so if you ask what role OS have in processes, the answer would be, from allocating CPU to providing resources to providing input-output to terminating the process everything is controlled by the OS.

Hope it clears your doubt and you like it :)
