Answer #1

| - CH₂ 14 12 CH=CH 10 G CHz (CH2)-CH=CH (CH2)2COOH Common name = Palmitoleic aud. Delta Name! 15 ! 6 klou 161149 4 € 9 18There are three ways for nomenclature of fatty acid.

(a) common nomenclature

(B) Delta nomenclature

(C) Omega nomenclature

Common nomenclature - there are some specific name were given to fatty acid , which are called common name.

As in given case , the common name will be Palmitoleic acid. for CH3(CH2)5CH=CH(CH2)7COOH.

DELTA nomenclature -

in this nomenclature of fatty acid , we first give numbering to carbon atom starting from Carboxylic group to the end. And then calculate how many carbon atoms are there ,

Again, We see ,if any double bond is present there ,if yes ,then our next step is to see the position of that double bond from the position of Carboxylic group.

And , then , finally we write in a manner as

No. Of Carbon in fatty acid : No. Of double bond ∆ ^position of that double bond.

For the given problem ,

16 Carbon atoms are present here , one double bond , and the position of the double bond is at 9 from Carboxylic acid group. Therefore name will be.

16:1∆^9

omega nomenclature- this nomenclature is same as Delta nomenclature ONLY the difference arises is-

The Carbon atoms numbering is started from methyl (omega) end instead of the Carboxylic acid group end.

And omega symbol is used instead of Delta symbol , rest process are same as in Delta nomenclature.

in omega nomenclature ,the name will be " 16:1w^-7.
