1. A researcher hypothesizes that involving students in the game design community of practice would promote students' interest in computer programming after controlling for their prior programming skills. Students are given a test at the beginning of the study to measure their prior programming skill. To test how game design formats would affect male and female students' interest in programming, 60 males and 60 females are randomly assigned to one of three groups. All the students first learn basic programming skills. The first group of 40 students are given some traditional programming exercise to do, the second group of 40 students are asked to create a computer game by themselves, and a third group of 40 are asked to create a computer game with timely feedback from professional programmers and game designers. The students' interest in computer programming is measured by an interest inventory (10-point, Likert scale) after the experiment.

Answer #1
  1. Identify DVs and IVs

dependent variable is measuring of interest inventory on10-point,

independent variables are group ( group1, group2 and group3) and sex (male and female)

2. Specify the type of each IV (between-subject, within-subject factor, or covariate)

covariate

3.Choose one ANOVA technique from the following alternatives

ANCOVA

ANCOVA (Analysis of Covariance) Overview. Analysis of covariance is used to test the main and interaction effects of categorical variables on a continuous dependent variable, controlling for the effects of selected other continuous variables, which co-vary with the dependent.
