A car wheel has a mass of 30kg and a radius of 45.0 cm. This happens to be a "spinner" which a thin, solid disk of mass 10kg and a radius of 30 cm on the inside of the wheel. If the car was travelling at 9 m/s, what will be the angular velocity of the "spinner" in the center of the wheel when the car stops? (HINT: assume the car wheel is a hollow cylinder)

Answer #1

given
v = 9 m/s
R = 45 cm = 0.45 m

we know, angular speed, w = v/R

= 9/0.45

= 20 rad/s

angular speed is same for wheel and spinner.

so, the spinner will be spinning with angular speed 20 rad/s <<<<<<<<------Answer

    A potter's wheel having a radius of 0.500 m and mass 45.0 kg is rotating freely at 50.0 rev/min in a clockwise direction. The potter can stop the wheel by pressing a wet rag against the outside rim of the wheel and exerting a radially inward force of 70.0 N. Since this force is in the radial direction, it alone cannot cause the wheel to slow its spinning. What can happen, however, is that a normal force can result from...
